Reverse description Bare-headed, draped bust of the young Octavian facing right, depicted with a short beard as was customary during the period of mourning following Julius Caesar's assassination, rendered in the vigorous Late Republican portrait style. The circular legend CAESAR·IMP·PONT·III·VIR·R·P·C surrounds the effigy, proclaiming Octavian's titles of imperator, pontifex, and triumvir for the restoration of the Republic. The plain field focuses full attention on the portrait, and the design is framed by a neat border of beads around the edge of the flan.
