| Obverse description | Diademed and draped bust of Venus facing right, her hair elaborately arranged and bound with a diadem, rendered in the refined late-Republican style. The legend CAES·DIC·QVAR is disposed around the effigy in the field, identifying Caesar as dictator for the fourth time. The entire design is enclosed within a neat border of raised dots. The portrait, though nominally that of Venus, reflects the propagandistic iconography of Caesar's divine ancestry through the gens Julia. |
