| Obverse description | Bare-headed, draped and bearded bust of Hadrian facing right, depicted in the Hellenistic portrait tradition with curly hair and characteristic full beard rendered in finely engraved detail. The imperial effigy is shown from behind the right shoulder, emphasizing the draped paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder. The encircling legend is incuse in Latin capitals, reading continuously around the periphery of the flan. The portrait conveys the mature, philosophic character associated with Hadrian's later coinage of the COS III period. |
