| Obverse description | Bare-headed, laureate bust of Hadrian facing left, with a short curly beard rendered in the Hellenistic tradition, the hair arranged in characteristic layered curls over the forehead. The emperor is depicted with a draped and cuirassed bust, projecting a martial yet philosophical authority. The portrait is executed in fine high relief with careful attention to facial modelling, consistent with the refined Hadrianic court style. The encircling Latin legend reads HADRIANVS AVG COS III P P, distributed around the periphery of the flan. |
