| Reverse description | The reverse depicts the personification of Roma seated left on a cuirass or pile of arms, helmeted and draped, extending her right hand toward a standing male figure — representing Hadrian or a province — who faces her. Roma holds a short sceptre or spear in her left hand, and the scene evokes the ceremonial adventus, the formal imperial arrival welcomed by the city. The legend ADVENTVS AVG is distributed around the field, and a wolf and twins (Romulus and Remus) are visible beneath Roma's seat, reinforcing the Roman iconographic program. The whole is enclosed within a beaded border on an irregularly shaped hammered gold flan. |
