Obverse description Bare-headed bust of Emperor Galba facing right, draped in paludamentum and wearing scale armor, rendered in high relief with finely detailed physiognomy characteristic of the Julio-Claudian transitional portraiture style. The emperor's features are shown with pronounced jowls and short, tightly curled hair, reflecting the realistic portraiture convention of the period. The circumscribed Latin legend reads SER GALBA CAESAR AVG, distributed around the full perimeter of the coin field. The portrait occupies the central flan, the bare head conveying Galba's deliberate association with Roman Republican tradition rather than divine imagery. The overall style reflects the workshop conventions of the Rome Mint during the brief reign of AD 68–69.
