| Reverse description | Within a finely rendered wreath of oak leaves (corona civica), the abbreviated legend S P Q R / OB C S is displayed in two lines across the central field, the upper line reading SPQR and the lower OB CS. The oak wreath, tied at the base with a ribbon, is rendered in high relief with carefully detailed foliage, its tips meeting at the apex of the design. The entire composition is enclosed within a beaded border. This reverse type, echoing the civic crown awarded to Augustus, explicitly presents Galba as saviour of the Roman citizens and legitimate successor to Augustan authority. |
