Obverse description Bare-headed, laureate bust of Emperor Galba facing right, with a draped and cuirassed effigy rendered in bold high relief characteristic of early imperial hammered coinage. The emperor's aged features are depicted with naturalistic portraiture, including pronounced facial lines and a strong jaw. The encircling legend SER GALBA IMP CAESAR AVG P M TR P runs clockwise in Latin capitals around the periphery of the flan, framed by a beaded border. The die work displays the vigorous, slightly irregular style associated with the Rome mint during the turbulent Year of the Four Emperors.
