(Translation: Constantius Noble Caesar)
Reverse description Hercules standing in three-quarter view to the right, his muscular figure depicted in the Tetrarchic heroic tradition associating the Caesar with the Herculian dynasty. His right arm hangs at his side while he leans leftward on a large club set upon a rock, with the Nemean lion skin draped over the club. The reverse legend VIRTVTI HERCVLIS frames the composition, invoking the virtue and strength of Hercules as a propagandistic motif of Maximian's imperial college. The field is smooth with a fine hammered surface consistent with late 3rd-century gold coinage from the Cyzicus mint.
