Obverse description Bare-headed, laureate bust of Emperor Claudius facing right, rendered in high relief with naturalistic portraiture characteristic of Julio-Claudian imperial coinage. The emperor's curly hair is depicted with fine detail beneath the laurel wreath, and the truncation of the neck is cleanly cut. The circumferential Latin legend encircles the effigy, separated from the portrait by an inner bead border. The die work reflects the refined hand of the Lugdunum or Rome mint workshops active during Claudius's reign.
