Obverse description Laureate head of Caligula (Gaius Julius Caesar Germanicus) facing right, rendered in high relief with finely detailed laurel wreath and individualized portrait features characteristic of early Julio-Claudian die engraving. The neck is bare, with a naturalistic treatment of the facial musculature and hair. The surrounding legend is incuse in Latin capital letters, distributed along the outer border of the field. A beaded inner border frames the portrait and legend. The portrait presents a youthful but authoritative likeness consistent with Caligula's early reign imagery.
