| Reverse description | A circular votive shield (clipeus) inscribed CL V occupies the central field, flanked on the left by a legionary aquila (eagle standard) and on the right by a military signum (legionary standard). The legend SIGNIS RECEPTIS is distributed around the upper portion of the design, while S P Q R appears in the four corners or quadrants between the flanking standards and the shield. The composition commemorates the diplomatic recovery of Roman standards lost at the Battle of Carrhae (53 BC), a major propaganda achievement of the Augustan regime. |
