| Obverse description | Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in fine portrait style with naturalistically detailed hair arranged in short locks over the forehead. The bust is unadorned, without laurel wreath or diadem, reflecting the restrained Augustan artistic idiom. A beaded border encircles the design. The legend CAESAR AVGVSTVS is divided across the field, reading in two parts around the portrait. |

| Reverse description | A tetrastyle temple of Jupiter Tonans (Jupiter the Thunderer) depicted in three-quarter perspective, with a triangular pediment above four fluted columns resting on a stepped podium. Within the temple's cella stands the nude figure of Jupiter facing left, holding a thunderbolt in his extended right hand and a sceptre in his left. The legend IOVIS TONANT is inscribed vertically in the fields to either side of the temple, flanking the architectural composition. The rendering of the temple reflects the Capitoline shrine vowed by Augustus after his narrow escape from lightning during the Cantabrian campaign. |
