Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in fine relief with carefully articulated hair swept back in characteristic Augustan style with a distinctive comma-shaped lock falling over the forehead. The portrait displays the idealized classicizing aesthetic of early Imperial coinage. The encircling legend reads AVGVSTVS DIVI F in Latin characters, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The flan is slightly irregular in shape, as typical of hammered aurei of this period.
Obverse script Latin
Obverse lettering AVGVSTVS DIVI F
(Translation: Augustus Divi Filii. Augustus, son of the divine.)
