| Obverse description | Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in fine relief with carefully articulated hair swept back in characteristic Augustan style with a distinctive comma-shaped lock falling over the forehead. The portrait displays the idealized classicizing aesthetic of early Imperial coinage. The encircling legend reads AVGVSTVS DIVI F in Latin characters, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The flan is slightly irregular in shape, as typical of hammered aurei of this period. |
