Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered with finely detailed short wavy hair in the classicizing portrait style characteristic of early Augustan coinage. The effigy displays a youthful, idealized physiognomy consistent with official imperial imagery of the period. A circular Latin legend surrounds the portrait, reading continuously around the periphery of the flan. The field is plain and unadorned, allowing the high-relief portrait to dominate the composition. The die-cutting reflects the accomplished craftsmanship of the Rome mint's engravers under Augustus.
