| Obverse description | Bare, laureate head of Augustus facing right, rendered with finely detailed curly hair and a oak-wreath crown, in the Hellenistic portrait tradition. The effigy displays a youthful, idealised physiognomy characteristic of early Augustan coinage. The truncation of the neck is bare. The field is plain, and the coin is bordered by a beaded (dotted) inner border. The legend CAESAR AVGVSTVS appears on this side, affirming the ruler's dynastic title and imperial status. |

| Reverse description | The reverse features the legend CAESAR at the top and AVGVSTVS at the bottom, framing a central design consisting of a circular shield (clipeus) bearing the inscription CL V (Clupeus Virtutis, the Shield of Virtue) in the central boss, flanked on either side by laurel branches. The abbreviation S·P·Q·R (Senatus Populusque Romanus) appears to the left and right of the shield's upper field. The entire composition is enclosed within a wreath formed by two laurel branches tied at the base, referencing the golden shield voted by the Senate and Roman people in honour of Augustus in 27 BC. The design commemorates the constitutional settlement of Augustus and his four cardinal virtues: virtus, clementia, iustitia, and pietas. |
