Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing left, rendered in finely detailed high relief with naturalistically styled hair swept forward in characteristic Augustan fashion. The portrait conveys youthful idealism combined with imperial authority, a hallmark of early Principate coinage. No legend appears on the obverse, the entire field being devoted to the imperial effigy. The flan shows the characteristic irregular, slightly convex profile of a struck aureus of this period.
