At her feet to the left stands a small altar upon which she appears to be making an offering, emphasizing the religious piety central to Antoninus Pius's imperial ideology. The figure is rendered in fine relief with delicate drapery folds consistent with high-quality Antonine die engraving. The surrounding legend AVG PIVS P M TR P COS DES II arcs around the periphery of the field, recording his chief imperial titles as of 138 AD. |
