Reverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, depicted in a simple provincial manner, with the Latin legend IMP CAESAR DIVI F AVGVSTVS arranged around the portrait. The reverse legend identifies the emperor as son of the deified Julius Caesar, underscoring the dynastic and religious authority invoked by the local magistrate who authorised the issue. The flan is thick and irregular, and the strike is slightly off-centre, characteristic of hammered civic bronzes from the municipality of Cercina under the proconsular authority of L. Volusus.
