| Obverse description | Concave field depicting a frontal bust of Christ Pantokrator, nimbate with a jewelled cruciform nimbus, the sigla IC-XC flanking the bust in the left and right fields respectively. Christ raises his right hand in a gesture of benediction and holds the Book of Gospels in his left hand. The effigy is rendered in the hieratic Byzantine style characteristic of Komnenian coinage, with fine drapery details visible on the garments. |
