| Obverse description | Emperor Manuel I Komnenos depicted standing facing in full imperial regalia, clad in loros and crown, holding a labarum in his right hand and the akakia in his left. The manus Dei (Hand of God) descends from above in benediction over the emperor's head. The figure is rendered in the flat, hieratic Byzantine style typical of Komnenian-era coinage, with pellet ornaments decorating the field. Greek legend arranged in the left and right fields flanks the imperial effigy. |
