| Obverse description | The obverse field is entirely occupied by a three-line Persian-script legend in bold, calligraphic Naskh style, reading 'Sikka zad dar jahan ba fazl-i Allah / Muhammad Ali Shahanshah-i zaman / 1255,' proclaiming Muhammad Ali as the coin-striking sovereign of the age by God's grace. The Hijri regnal year 1255 appears prominently in the lower legend line in Eastern Arabic numerals. The entire design is enclosed within a finely milled border of uniform denticles running along the coin's periphery, characteristic of the Lucknow milled coinage of Awadh. |
