Obverse description Laureate head of Vespasian facing right, rendered in bold high relief with characteristic portraiture of the emperor — a mature, clean-shaven visage with strong facial features. The laurel wreath is rendered with fine detail. The encircling legend reads IMP CAES VESPASIAN AVG COS III, running clockwise around the periphery of the flan. The field is flat and unadorned, and the portrait exhibits the forthright, realistic style typical of Flavian imperial coinage struck at the Rome Mint.
