(Translation: Imperator Caesar Vespasianus Augustus Pontifex Maximus, Tribunicia Potestate, Consul Quartum, Censor. Supreme commander (Imperator) Caesar Vespasian, emperor (Augustus), high priest, holder of tribunician power, consul for the fourth time, censor.)
Reverse description The personification of Spes (Hope) stands facing left in full figure, rendered in flowing robes with graceful drapery. She extends her right hand forward, raising the hem of her garment with her left hand in the canonical pose associated with this goddess of hope. The large senatorial authority marks S and C flank the figure on either side in the mid-field, a standard authorisation formula for Roman bronze coinage. The composition is open and uncluttered, with the divine personification centrally placed against a plain field typical of Flavian-era aes coinage.
