Reverse description A large, architecturally detailed altar dominates the central field, depicted in three-quarter perspective with panelled sides, a decorated cornice, and a stepped base. The altar type references the Ara Providentiae Augusti, evoking the divine foresight of the emperor as protector of the Roman state. The legend PROVIDENT is inscribed across the lower portion of the field, with the senatorial authority mark S C flanking the altar to left and right respectively. The design is boldly struck in high relief, consistent with the Flavian As coinage of AD 73 struck at Rome.
