Obverse description Laureate head of Vespasian facing right, rendered in high relief with characteristic realistic portraiture of the Flavian period, showing the emperor's strong, fleshy features. The circumferential Latin legend IMP CAES VESPASIAN AVG COS III runs clockwise around the periphery of the flan. The surface exhibits a patinated bronze ground with areas of green encrustation consistent with long burial. The portrait conveys the no-nonsense, soldierly character associated with Flavian imperial iconography.
