Obverse lettering IMP CAES NER TRAIANO OPTIMO AVG GERM
(Translation: Imperator, Caesar, Nervae Traiano Optimo, Augustus, Germanicus. Supreme commander (Imperator), Caesar, of Nerva Trajan, the best emperor (Augustus), conqueror of the Germans.)
Reverse description The large senatorial mark of value S·C (Senatus Consulto) occupies the central field, rendered in bold, well-formed capitals within a finely detailed oak wreath (corona civica) tied at the base with a ribbon. The wreath is composed of neatly arranged leaves curving symmetrically around the central device. The reverse legend is disposed around the outer periphery of the flan in a continuous circular arrangement. The composition is clean and emblematic, consistent with the aes coinage authorised by the Roman Senate during the reign of Trajan.
