Reverse description The personification of Spes (Hope) stands facing left in full figure, draped in a long chiton falling to her feet, her body rendered in fine low relief. She extends her right hand forward presenting a flower, while her left hand gathers and slightly raises the hem of her garment in the canonical Spes gesture well attested on Julio-Claudian and Flavian coinage. The large senatorial authorization mark S C (Senatus Consultum) flanks the figure in the left and right fields respectively, as was customary on Roman aes coinage of this period.
