| Reverse description | Depiction of the Janus Geminus, the two-faced temple of Janus in the Roman Forum, shown in three-quarter perspective with a latticed or barred window visible to the left side and double panelled doors to the right, across which a garland is hung — the so-called 'closed door' motif — signifying that the gates of the temple have been shut in declaration of universal peace. The reverse legend in two lines or arranged around the temple type records the senatorial decree commemorating this act. The exergual field is plain, and the senatorial mark S C flanks or appears within the design. |
