Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of Emperor Claudius facing right, rendered in portrait style with characteristic physiognomic features, set against a flat field. The legend encircles the bust along the periphery in Latin capital letters. This is a restitution issue struck under Titus, reproducing the original Claudian coinage type. The flan shows the characteristic irregular shape of hammered Roman bronze coinage, with a patina of green and brown corrosion consistent with prolonged burial.
