Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in a flat-topped, somewhat coarse style characteristic of the Augustan senatorial mint coinage of this period. The portrait is executed with broad, shallow modeling, the facial features summarily defined. The surrounding Latin legend is disposed in a circular arrangement, and the entire design is enclosed within a coarse linear border. The die style reflects the work of the tresviri monetales responsible for this issue rather than the refined portraiture of the imperial mint.
