Obverse description The obverse features a dynamic relief composition of fantastical creatures of the imagination, including a winged demon, a dragon, and other mythical figures set among stars and foliage. The date 1981 appears at the top of the field, with the legend CREATURES OF THE IMAGINATION arcing along the lower portion. Designed by Blaine Kern Artists (BKA) for the Jefferson Parish Mardi Gras celebration.

Reverse description The reverse depicts Argus Panoptes, the many-eyed giant of Greek mythology, shown as a muscular male figure whose body is covered with eyes, flanked by peacock feathers and a peacock to the right. The legend ARGUS arcs across the top of the field, with MARDI GRAS JEFFERSON PARISH along the lower border and the founding year 1972 in the exergue.
