| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of Maximianus facing right, wearing a radiate diadem with pendilia visible behind the ear, the portrait rendered with strong realistic features including a short beard, furrowed brow, and prominent jaw characteristic of the Tetrarchic style. The emperor's cuirassed shoulders are partially visible at the base of the bust, conveying martial authority. The legend MAXIMIA-NVS AVG runs clockwise around the periphery within a beaded border, identifying the emperor as Augustus. The engraving is bold and confident, consistent with the high-quality die work associated with the Ticinum mint during the Diocletianic reform coinage. |
