Obverse description Bare-shouldered, laureate bust of Emperor Maximian facing right, rendered with strong portraiture characteristic of the Tetrarchic period, featuring a short cropped beard and closely set wreath of laurel berries and leaves. The effigy displays the emperor's robust physiognomy with finely engraved facial features and naturalistic hair treatment. The encircling Latin legend reads MAXIMIANVS AVG, distributed around the periphery of the flan within a beaded border. The high-relief portrait reflects the refined die-cutting style associated with the Siscia mint workshops of the early Tetrarchic reform coinage.
