Obverse description Laureate and cuirassed bust of Diocletian facing right, rendered in the late Roman imperial style with fine detailing of the laurel wreath and military dress. The emperor's portrait is commanding and idealized, with clearly articulated facial features including a strong jaw and prominent brow. The circumferential Latin legend DIOCLETIANVS AVG runs around the bust, contained within a beaded border. The truncation of the bust is visible at the lower right of the field.
