Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Macrinus facing right, with a prominent beard rendered in fine detail characteristic of the Severan period. The imperial effigy is depicted with a radiate wreath of laurel leaves surmounting the head, with curling locks of hair visible at the temples. The Greek imperial titulature legend encircles the bust, running from left to right around the field. The portrait displays the bearded, mature physiognomy consistent with known iconography of Macrinus on provincial coinage of Edessa. The flan is slightly irregular and the strike somewhat off-center, typical of hammered provincial issues of this period.
