Obverse description Radiate and cuirassed bust of Caracalla facing right, depicted from behind in the characteristic rear-view convention employed at the Edessa mint, showing the elaborate pteryges of the cuirass in detail. The emperor wears a radiate crown, the spikes rendered with bold relief against the flat field. A Greek legend encircles the effigy, reading partially around the periphery of the flan. The portrait conveys the vigorous, youthful features associated with Caracalla's early imperial iconography, executed in the provincial style typical of Mesopotamian civic coinage.
