| Obverse description | Laureate head of Emperor Trajan facing right, with strong, idealized portraiture characteristic of Alexandrian provincial coinage. The emperor's bust is bare-shouldered, displaying a prominent laurel wreath. The Greek legend ΑΥΤ ΤΡΑΙΑΝ ϹΕΒ ΓΕΡΜ ΔΑΚΙΚ runs around the periphery, abbreviating his imperial titulature as Autocrator, Sebastos (Augustus), Germanicus, and Dacicus. The relief is bold and the engraving confident, typical of the Alexandrian mint's output under Trajan. |
