To the left of the column, a simpulum (libation ladle) is depicted in the field. The reverse legend ΕΛΕΥΘΕΡΙΑ appears around the figure, a politically resonant type reflecting the propaganda of Otho's brief reign and the Alexandrian mint's celebration of imperial libertas. |
