| Obverse description | Bare-headed, laureate bust of the Emperor Hadrian facing right, wearing an aegis on the left shoulder, rendered in the Alexandrian style with characteristic portraiture. The surrounding legend reads ΑΥΤ ΚΑΙ ΤΡΑΙ - ΑΔΡΙΑ ϹΕΒ, distributed on either side of the effigy. The die-work displays the bold, slightly provincial engraving typical of the Roman Imperial mint at Alexandria during the second century AD. |
