Additional information

Galba's Alexandrian tetradrachm occupies a strange historical pocket: struck after Nero's suicide in June 68 but before Galba himself was murdered by the Praetorian Guard in January 69, the entire issue represents a reign of barely seven months. Egypt's mint at Alexandria operated under imperial control as a closed currency system, meaning these tetradrachms circulated only within the province — locals had no choice but to accept them. Galba never visited Egypt, and news of his death likely reached Alexandria before many of these coins had even changed hands a second time.
