Year 7 of Severus Alexander's reign corresponds to 227–228 AD, a period when the Alexandrian mint was operating under significant fiscal pressure following the monetary reforms initiated under Elagabalus. The billon tetradrachm coinage of Alexandria had been debased progressively through the third century, and by Alexander's reign the silver content was nominal at best — these circulated primarily on fiduciary rather than intrinsic value within Egypt's closed currency system, which barred foreign coin and forced exchange at the border.
Köln 2530 and Milne 2922 both confirm this as a well-documented regnal year issue with no unusual die anomalies reported across the major collections.
