| Obverse description | Draped bust of Julia Mamaea, mother of Severus Alexander, facing right, wearing a stephane (diadem) set atop elaborately waved and coiled hair. The effigy is rendered in typical Alexandrian provincial style with finely detailed drapery at the truncation. The encircling Greek legend reads ΙΟΥ ΜΑΜΑΙΑ ϹΕΒ ΜΗΤ ϹΕΒ Κ ϹΤΡΑ, identifying her as Augusta and Mother of the Augustus and the Camp. A beaded border frames the design. |
