Obverse description Draped bust of Julia Mamaea, Augusta and mother of Severus Alexander, facing right, wearing a stephane (diadem crown) and elaborate coiffure. The effigy is rendered in the provincial Alexandrian style with garments indicated by incised folds at the shoulder. The surrounding Greek legend reads partially around the periphery of the flan, identifying the empress by her titles.

Reverse description Draped bust of the city-goddess Alexandria facing right, wearing a turreted crown (mural crown), her hair elaborately dressed in the Alexandrian provincial style. A palm branch appears to the right of the bust, a symbol of victory and civic pride. The regnal year legend L ΙΓ (Year 13, corresponding to 233-234 AD) is inscribed in the field, framing the design in accordance with standard Alexandrian tetradrachm typology.
