Obverse description Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Septimius Severus facing right, with short curled beard rendered in the characteristic Severan style. The emperor's effigy is rendered in high relief with detailed treatment of the laurel wreath and drapery folds at the shoulder. The Greek imperial legend surrounds the bust, reading from upper left around the periphery of the flan.

Reverse description A Roman military trophy of arms depicted in the centre of the field, consisting of a captured enemy's armour and weapons mounted on a post, with shields and additional arms arranged at its base. The regnal year date is split either side of the trophy in the lower field, with the letter L (indicating 'year') to the left and Γ (year 3) to the right, following standard Alexandrian dating convention.
