| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Gordian III facing right, rendered in three-quarter frontal view, with a gorgoneion (Medusa head) prominently displayed on the cuirass. The legend runs around the bust in Greek characters, reading Α Κ Μ ΑΝΤ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ΕΥ, identifying the emperor by his imperial titulature. The portraiture is executed in the provincial Alexandrian style characteristic of mid-third-century Roman Egypt tetradrachm coinage. |
