| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Gordian III facing right, portrayed three-quarter face to front. The emperor wears a radiate laurel wreath and a paludamentum over cuirass. The encircling Greek legend reads Α Κ Μ ΑΝ ΓΟΡΔΙΑΝΟϹ ΕΥϹΕ, identifying the emperor with his imperial titulature. The style is characteristic of the Alexandrian mint workshop of the mid-third century AD. |
