| Obverse description | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Elagabalus facing right, viewed from the rear, with the radiate crown rendered in bold relief above the youthful imperial effigy. The emperor is depicted in military dress, with the paludamentum (military cloak) visible at the shoulder and the cuirass indicated by incised detail. The circular Greek legend surrounds the bust in the field, reading ΑΥΤ Κ Μ Α ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟϹ, identifying the emperor by his official titulature. The portrait style is characteristic of the eastern provincial mint tradition, combining Roman iconographic conventions with the broader, more expressive engraving typical of Mesopotamian workshops. |
