Obverse description Draped and cuirassed bust of Marcus Aurelius as Caesar, bare-headed with short beard, facing right, wearing paludamentum fastened at the shoulder. The Greek legend Μ ΑΥΡΗΛΙΟϹ ΚΑΙϹΑΡ runs around the periphery of the flan. The portrait displays the characteristic youthful features of Aurelius as Caesar under Antoninus Pius, with finely rendered curling hair and a short cropped beard consistent with his early iconography.
