| Obverse description | Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Valerian I facing right, seen from the front, with finely rendered hair beneath the laurel wreath and paludamentum visible at the shoulder. The effigy displays strong, naturalistic portraiture characteristic of Alexandrian tetradrachm coinage of the mid-third century AD. A Greek legend encircles the bust reading Α Κ Π ΛΙ ΟΥΑΛΕΡΙΑΝΟϹ ΕΥ ΕΥ Ϲ, abbreviating his imperial titulature. |
